In this series, Salvatori blends textures, light, and handmade textiles with classical gestures of the male form. The images find their evocative power in the artist’s use of models cast in shadows and light, contrasting with the bright colors and chunky textures of knitted yarn.

“I explored knitting as yet another way of playing with color and form. I wanted to bring these handmade objects, some finished, some not, into my photography.” Using handmade yarn objects in different ways, each image subtly plays with gender stereotypes while also drawing on the artist’s earlier years in the fashion industry, first as a model in Milan and London and then several years at the headquarters of Ferragamo in Florence, Italy.

THREADS creates a mesmerizing series of fantasy images where the male form is a canvas for the play of texture and color. Each scene in the series is precisely composed with an exquisite sense of mystery and light, which have made Salvatori’s photographs so captivating and unique. These sophisticated images, printed on archival paper in limited edition of seven copies per image, continue to show the artist’s versatility in mediums, his keen eye for composition, and his evocative, playful vision.
