TOWERS OF HOPE
Greg Salvatori transforms the tower of Provincetown into a symbol of safety, child-like joy, and self-expression for a queer community often struggling to find a home.
For the artist the tower metaphor is both cultural and personal. Raised as a Jehovah Witness, Salvatori grew up in the shadow of the Watchtower, the religion’s dominant symbol, an image of oppression and hate. The Series captures his own journey from one kind of tower to another, from haunted, hurtful symbol of his past into magical and triumphant works of joy and acceptance today.
These paintings, with their complex layering of gold leaf, metallic paint, acrylic pigments, and Augmented Reality, transform the Monument into a golden, universal beacon of hope, shining above all of us.
