Glitter Beard, a preparatory study for my new photo series I am collecting bearded New Yorkers with the ideal of creating a portrait series to represent the city and the world, because New York is the place where most things start, today.
Brett (in the picture) and I have worked on different concepts, to try and create an effect that includes the beard and glitter as key focus.

Why mixing GLITTER BEARDS & PINK?
Because still in 2014, some men are still afraid of pink and glitter! Their masculinity is THAT fragile!
I already had 10 men in my studio in Upper West Side and 2 of them bailed out at the sight of pink and glitter beard. Another one asked me if he could shoot in front of the pink background but without the glitter on. Almost all of them who did go for it, were a little uncomfortable.. Interesting.
Beards of New York wants to capture the individuality, the fashion, and the sexiness of the contemporary beard as key to what we think of masculinity. The collection showcases the beard’s many shapes and styles worn by a diverse mix of everyday New Yorkers from Wall Street traders to East Village barmen, to Broadway actors and Upper East Side doctors.

Each man is a sexy and playful study of modern masculinity. With these stunning portraits of men, radiant against the candy pink background and hints of glitter. It's the space between fashion and uniqueness that is interesting: from the conformity of the lumbersexual aesthetic to the courage of being themselves, these man are asking how the beard makes the man.
At the heart of this collection is the dazzling hot pink background that contrasts the masculinity of the beard. The original idea was to just focus on a glitter beard, but we moved to a more open idea, were the glitter is sprinkled here and there, like New York stardust.
