Create your ideal top
with Greg Salvatori
From taking your measurements and making your pattern, to creating your first tailored garment.
Course Syllabus - starting Jan 26th
Week 1 - Understanding measurements and our unique shape
Students are instructed on the basics of taking measurement. They will then be paired up to measure each other and create a base reference for pattern making.
Week 2 - Creating a pattern that works
Building on the crucial information and understanding from Week 1, students will start drawing paper patterns, translating flat measurements into 3-dimensional forms.
Week 3 - From paper to fabric - how to cut and start assembling the garment
Students will work on tracing the pattern onto fabric, cut the fabric, and start assembling a first mock-up.
Week 4 - First fitting and how to adjust a pattern to fit our unique bodies
Students will finish assembling the mock-ups from the previous week and do a first fitting to prove their measuring work and patterns. Students will be instructed on how to correct details or mistakes and learn how to adjust the pattern to achieve a good fit.
Week 5 - The real deal - Cutting and starting to assemble the fabric for the final garment
Using the updated patterns from Week 4, students can now start working on the real garment by cutting and assembling the actual fabric for the garment.
Week 6 - How to make the lining
Students are instructed on how to cut and assemble the lining of their garment.
Week 7 - Finishing touches and final fit
In the last session, students work to add the final details, like adding a zipper to the garment, securing the lining at the bottom, and hemming the sleeves. It’s time for a final fit and to bring the garment out for a spin!
NOTE: This course is ideal for someone who already has a rudimentary understanding of sewing and operating a sewing machine.
